“CARDINAL ARABIANS” is a small “Mom and Pop” horse farm located in a rural community in the Southwest part of Texas. Our Farm pride shows in the Quality, not quantity, of the horses that we bred and raised and in the Honesty of the handshake that greets you when you come for a visit.
As noted in my prior post, “From Books to the Farm”, I fell in love with horses from the time I read Black Beauty and watched Roy Rogers with Trigger and saw Flicka on tv. I was blessed with a wonderful friend, who later became my husband, who made it possible for me to live the dream and be part of the wonderful world of being owned by a horse.
The farm’s name “Cardinal Arabians” , is a tribute to the lady, who was also my friend, my Mother. Mother’s favorite birds were Cardinals. On Christmas Day in 1996, Our Lord called her home to help Him celebrate His son, Jesus, birthday. In honor of my Mother, we named the farm “Cardinal Arabians”.
And in answer to your question yes, we do have Cardinals at the farm. I can’t even begin to tell you how much I still miss my Mother but, Our Lord was merciful and His gift of the Cardinals helps to bring me peace . The birds greet me every morning as I sit on the back porch and watch the horses graze in the pastures; and then, I share a cup of coffee with my Mother.

My daughter sent this to me by email. There was no name on the post so I do not know where it originated or who to give credit too.I wanted to share this with you as the message it bares should be heeded. Clay Balls He thought little about it, until he dropped one of the clay balls and it cracked open on a rock . Inside was a beautiful, precious stone!
Excited, the man started breaking open the remaining clay balls. Each contained a similar treasure. He found thousands of dollars worth of jewels in the 20 or so clay balls he had left.
Then it struck him. He had been on the beach a long time. He had thrown maybe 50 or 60 of the clay balls with their hidden treasure into the ocean waves. Instead of thousands of dollars in treasure, he could have taken home tens of thousands, but he had just thrown it away!
It’s like that with people. We look at someone, maybe even ourselves, and we see the external clay vessel. It doesn’t look like much from the outside. It isn’t always beautiful or sparkling, so we discount it.
We see that person as less important than someone more beautiful or stylish or well known or wealthy. But we have not taken the time to find the treasure hidden inside that person.
There is a treasure in each and every one of us. If we take the time to get to know that person, and if we ask God to show us that person the way He sees them, then the clay begins to peel away and the brilliant gem begins to shine forth.

Don’t Fence Me In!
The Fight to Save a Legendary Wild Horse Herd
From Director Ginger Kathrens
The Custer National Forest awarded a contract on August 6, 2010. It calls for the building of new, bigger, stronger, longer fence to prevent the Pryor Wild Horse Herd from grazing on their mid-summer through fall pastures atop their mountain home. The first question I am always asked is “Why?” To answer honestly, I am not sure what is pushing this kind of expensive and unwanted project. But, to even try to answer the question requires a bit of a history lesson.
Those that read my blog know that from time to time I post things of others that are either of interest to me or things that I think should be brought to the public’s attention. This is something I think the Public should be aware of; another BIG “oops” that a branch of our government is in the process of making.
This subject is very dear to my heart. Did you see the story on Public TV about “Cloud” and his herd? Maybe you bought the book and read it to your children. Cloud and his family are in trouble and need the input of the general public to come to their aid. Please go to
www.thecloudfoundation.org to learn the rest of the story and how you can get involve. I thank-you for expending a helping hand to Cloud and for helping preserve an important part of our Western Heritage and History.
If we think about this quote and then act upon it in a positive manner, can’t you just vision the unlimited good that could be done for all mankind…………….. WOW!

I am happy to give this update: I just received a phone call from the Houston SPCA. The American Miniature Horse Association has stepped forward and is donating 100 brand new halters for these little ones. Thank-you so much, this is a big help.
If you would still like to give a donation for the care of the miniatures you can do so by either calling Steinhauser’s feed store in Hempstead, TX where an account has been setup for the mini’s, go online to the Houston SPCA’s website or put a donation in the mail to them. I included all this contact information in the article below.
The SPCA has been receiving calls from people wanting to foster care horses NOW and this is just not possible. I understand that some are upset as they have not received a return phone call. Please understand the staff is NOT avoiding anyone; they just have their hands full right now and cannot answer all the phone inquiries; animals needs first before phone calls. The Staff’s main focus and priority is to get these little ones through processing, vet checked, evaluated and started on whatever care and treatment programs they might need. All this is part of the process to see who later is are is not candidates for adoption or foster care and what may need to be done for others to get them to that stage. All this takes time so please, be patient.
I will keep you updated on the miniatures progress. If you have questions you are welcome to email me. Thank-you for your concerns and continued support. Help for situations like this could not be possible without all of you.
Blessings, Sid Chipman
“Patience is not how long you wait for something but the attitude you have while you wait.”
105 Miniature Horses were voluntarily turned over to the Houston SPCA by their owner who was overwhelmed and could no longer care for them due to the economy.
My husband and I went over yesterday to lend a helping hand and take a few halters. Some of the little ones are in really poor condition. After they are all vet checked, for the first couple of days they will receive a diet of fresh hay and then slowly introduced to grain.
The SPCA is in need of halters and lead ropes for these little ones. Of course donations are appreciated too. You can donate online at www.houstonspca.org or snail mail at Houston SPCA, 900 Portway Drive, Houston, TX 77024 and in Memo on your check put Minature Horse Donation. This will ear mark your donation for feed and other supplies required to take care of the minis.
In several weeks the SPCA will be looking for permanent homes as well as foster homes for some of these little guys. They also have quarter horses and other breeds that are in need and ready to go to homes now. Please give this need some serious thought and pass it on to others that you feel might be able to lend a helping hand to any of these horses.
My husband and I are going back to the facility Saturday to help and will keep everyone posted with updates here on the blog.
Please keep all these horses, the people that are caring for them and their prior owner in your prayers.
This morning I received the email below from the ASPCA Advocacy Alert.
I don’t know why I am surprise as BLM (Bureau of Land Management) didn’t listen the last go around so why should things be any differnt now. They are still out of control and continue to do their own thing. Some how all this has got to STOP!
Wasn’t the killings during prior roundups enough? What did they not understand about not being able to run horses, especially foals until their hoves come off and then wonder why they died? Why have you not learned? I pray to God that you do not have animals of your own for they surely need to be under the protection of St. Francis. Obama or someone needs to give the BLM an attitude adjustment and clean house.
Why won’t BLM listen to the cry of the American People for humane justice for these beautiful icons of our Western Heritage? What gives them the right to not follow rules and orders or not have a check and balance system for their department? Who put them in office and when and how can they be replaced? Please forward this to all your friends and ask them to call Obama, their Congressman, Senator and all the Animal Clubs they know and be a voice for the Mustangs before they become only a page of our past history.
Dear Animal Advocates,
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is the agency within the U.S. Department of the Interior that administers America’s public lands, including the animals who call these lands home. As part of its wild horse management program, the BLM periodically rounds up large numbers of wild horses and moves them into long-term holding facilities.
Over the weekend, the BLM began its latest roundup of more than 1,200 federally protected wild horses on public lands in Nevada. The use of helicopters to run the terrified horses over miles of scorching desert resulted in serious injuries and several horse deaths, which led to temporary suspension of the roundup.
This occurred in spite of the fact that the BLM, under intense public criticism, established an open comment period on its plans for wild horses that is not over until August. Instead of waiting to hear what the American public has to say, BLM officials decided to go forward with these cruel and brutal roundups in the blistering heat of summer (several more are scheduled for the coming weeks). This, of course, is funded by your tax dollars.
What You Can Do
Call the White House Comment Line today at (202) 456-1111. The Obama Administration needs to be told—politely!—that the BLM’s actions are underhanded and inappropriate, and that the current roundup and others scheduled this summer must be cancelled immediately.
Please visit the ASPCA Online Advocacy Center at www.aspca.org/BLM to learn more about this issue and to see some tips on what to say when you call.
NOTE: This morning I called the White House Comment Line. I was very polite, did not raise my voice but I know you could tell there was urgency and concern in my voice. As I tried to state my concerns the guy who took the call kept acting like I was throught with what I had to say and kept trying to hang up. I finally had to politely tell him I was not finish with my comments.
I thought I was calling the White House Comment Line established so that the American people could voice their concerns; I guess I was either wrong or the guy did not understand that his job description was to listen and record the concerns of the people.
UPDATE:
Emma Thompson’s mother shed tears as the verdict of 20 years was read. I wonder if she cried each time her boyfriend beat her daughter?
The Mother cried again when Emma’s father asked her how she could let her boyfriend climb the stairs to her 4 year old daughter’s bedroom knowing what was going to happen. I wonder if she felt her daughter’s fear with the approach of each footstep.
As a Mother looks at her daughter she should see love and hold happy memories in her heart. Where was that loving arm of protection? Are her memories now the screams of her daughter as she was being sexually abused?
Tears flowed again as Emma’s grandmother explain how they had been robbed of sharing all life had to offer with this precious child. I wonder if her daughter had not died would she have continued to watch Emma suffer until she drew her last breath.
Was this Mother going through her own hell? Was she so scared of her boyfriend that it robbed her of a “Mother’s Instinct” to protect her child? Is there more to the story; why haven’t we heard it? The boyfriend’s in jail and Emma’s Mother is……………….
If Emma had lived, how long would it have been before someone realized what was happening to this child? Why didn’t Emma talk? Had she been threaten; was she scared the boyfriend would kill her Mother. What scars would she have had to over come? What would her life have been as a child dealing with a transmitted sexual disease?
Emma’s calls for protection are now a thing of the past for Our Lord blesses little boys and girls like Emma and turns them into Angels.
Footnote: When I first saw this story on the news I cried. All I could think of was the fear and abuse that this child and other children so unnecessarily have to suffer.
When you hear something like this it is so hard not to cry out; Why couldn’t that Mother protect her child? Why didn’t others notice what was going on?
Why did this child have to suffer? Because two people chose to do wrong instead of right.
Lord, I try to remember that unless you walk in someones shoes you do not know what they feel or what they are going through in their daily life but at times like this it is so hard to do. Lord, we pray that You will give us compassion and understanding. Help us to trust in You even when things seem so dark for we know You are the way and the light. Help me to follow the Serenity Prayer.
Lord, we are thankful that Emma is safe with You. We ask that You have mercy for Emma’s Mother and that You protect all the children and adults who are in an abusive situtation. Please help each one find a voice and the strength to break away from those chains and into a better life. In Jesus name we pray and we thank-you Lord. Amen
